Every corneal patient should have access to a competent surgeon and follow-up care.

SightLife’s Global Surgeon Training Program increases the quality and quantity of corneal transplants in India and Nepal by building surgeon capacity. SightLife, in partnership with leading ophthalmic institutions, hosts skills transfer courses to provide practicing corneal surgeons with hands-on training in DSEK and PKP surgical techniques, as well as ongoing coaching from the faculty following the training programs. The courses are designed to improve each surgeon’s ability to diagnose indications, assign the treatment with the greatest chance of success, develop surgical skill, and explain and demonstrate postoperative care.

"When I see patients who have had successful surgeries performed by local surgeons we have helped train, I know the surgical skills have been effectively transferred. There is nothing more satisfying than seeing a patient whose quality of life has been improved by your efforts."

"With time you realize the impact you have in improving vision or reducing blindness boils down to the number of patients you see or the amount of surgery you do...but the only way this can be multiplied many times over is by sharing what you know and by teaching as many people as possible...the right way to do things...and the impact will be much larger than what I could have ever done by myself."

— Dr. Pravin Vaddavalli, L.V. Prasad Eye Institute, Hyderabad, India and SightLife Faculty
